Welcome me, O Thee, Cyber-community!

Behold, at last I had fallen! The cyber-community has me! Between College, the newly installed DSL box at my home, and my girlfriend, I had no choice but to make a new e-mail address and a blog, joining at last with the techno-masses out there.

I resisted with all my might all this "technology rage" but it is almost impossible. Ipods, PSP's, MP3's, Laptops, cellphones, Chatrooms, e-mail addresses, blogs, gigas, megas, bits, bytes, DSL, HDTV, Nintendo, Microsoft, Apple, Linux... Everywhere we are surrounded by all these gizmos. Don't get me wrong! I make use of some of these in my everyday life. Like I said, it is impossible not to. But like everything else, too much is not healthy.

Too much salt, too much sugar, too much red meat, too much alcohol (or just a little in this case), too much sun, too much work, and of course, too much videogames, too much Internet, etcetera, etcetera. We have to learn to control ourselves and remember that we own these things, not the other way around.

We can see it everywhere. A little kid playing GameBoy while walking in the mall (Watch where you're going!), or an adult talking on the cellphone while driving, or speaking too loud on it in a public place (People don't care what you're going to wear for tonights date). Maybe a family is having a good conversation in the car, but you see that little Adriana is not listening because she have her Ipod, making a gap between herself and the others. Excesive or wrong use of these gadgets have a destructive impact upon society, making people insensible and/or socially-incapable.

I can't deny that these new technologies make our lives easier (sometimes too much) and that they help us communicate around the world (like I'm doing right now) and even help teachers to educate. But, everytime we discover or creat new things, some human beings find a way to use them in a wrong manner. Like pornography on the Internet or adiction to it, or "chatroom-ing" instead of face-to-face conversation.

I love to play my Nintendo. I like to talk on my cellphone. But I prefer to read a book, or ride my bike, or build something with Lego. Now, with all the "peer presure" from my girlfriend, friends, and teachers, I have made myself part of this new community. It'll do me good. I'll find new friends with different cultures and opinions. I can practice my writing and share my thoughts. In the end, I'll find a way to use it for my self-discovery and satisfaction... with moderation and consideration. I hope that you are doing the same.

Let's see how much I endure on this... I'm not an Internet fan. But will see if that can change... thus... Welcome me, O Thee, Cyber-community!
